[Fan Report] Barry Gibb in Boston (May 15, 2014)

Barry Gibb singing "Night Fever," "More Than A Woman," and "Grease" (May 15, 2014; Boston)

The U.S. leg of Mythology Tour has been over for over a month now with a never-ending flow of wonderful reviews and photographs from the press and the fans alike.  Here is one that we have received for the historical very first concert that took place in Boston on May 15, 2014.

All I can say is wow!!!  The concert certainly exceeded my expectations. I have been a Bee Gees fan for 17 years, and this was my first official Gibb concert. I went into the concert not really expecting much more than a 1.5 hour concert with the typical Bee Gees hits. But we were treated to 2.5 hours of not only Bee Gees hits, but some other gems as well (e.g., “Spirits Having Flown,” “With the Sun in My Eyes,” Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on Fire”). Barry’s voice was overall in excellent shape—I don’t think I’ve heard his falsetto on “Stayin’ Alive” sound so good in recent years.

But more importantly, I’ve just never seen Barry exuding so much positive energy. He seemed genuinely happy to be performing and deeply touched by
the response from the audience. Several times during the concert, the audience wouldn’t stop clapping and began chanting “Barry, Barry.” And at
least once he had tears in his eyes (e.g., following “NYMD 1941”). Those were moments I’ll never forget.

I wish I could attend more of the concerts on Barry’s tour, but I can only take so much time off from work. But regardless, I’ll have wonderful
memories of this concert for years to come!

The only disappointment from the show was the lack of tour t-shirts available for purchase. According to the folks running the merchandise
booths, apparently the shirts were shipped to Los Angeles instead of Boston. But the folks who run the Barry Gibb Mythology Tour Facebook page
said they are hoping the company that handles the tour merchandise will make the items available online.

Thank you, Katie, for sharing your wonderful experience with us!

It seems there was one particular gentleman from the audience that May night who walked up to the front of the stage during the set and asked Barry to give him a guitar pick.   When Barry replied: "But I don’t have a guitar pick," the person turned around and lamented “how he had come all the way up there and did not get anything.  Then Barry’s reported reply was: "”You can have one of my fingers instead."   Well, it takes all sorts to make up an audience, but we sure hope Barry ended up keeping all his fingers!
