The ever-green Lulu sings Bee Gee tunes at Glastonbury
Lulu singing Bee Gees’ "I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You" at Glastonbury (June 26, 2015)
Lulu made her first ever appearance in Glastonbury on June 28 and sang among others her big hit ‘Shout," and ‘I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You’ and ‘To Love Somebody’ by the Bee Gees. During their romance and marriage, Maurice said of Lulu that he’d never known "anyone so full of life." Many years have passed, but she still looks and sounds remarkably well.
As Barry revealed during the Mythology Tour, ‘I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You’ was Robin’s brain child and is about a man who killed his partner’s lover and was in jail waiting to be executed. When Robin explained to Barry and Maurice that it was nevertheless a love song, they were both perplexed, Barry said. I was kind of curious how Lulu would deliver the sinister line: "Well, I did it to him. Now it’s my turn to die." As it turned out, she repeated the verse one twice and skipped this portion altogether.
Let me digress (more than) a little bit and tell you that Daily Mail (online version dated May 14, 2015) reports that Lulu tops the poll of female celebrities who dress younger than their actual age. The poll found that Lulu, at 66, dresses like she is 38 years old, with a "dress-age" gap of 28 years. With Paul McCartney topping the male celebrities with a "dress-age" gap of 24 years, the article reports that the major factor which aged a celebrity of either sex was greying or receding hair, so the Bee Gee twins might not have made the top 10, although they both remained remarkably youthful with eternal spring in their steps.
